Shiga Kogen is not one stop
Hasuike, Takamagahara, Okushiga and Yokoteyama require different driving times. Set your hotel or car park as the destination.
Published access material gives about 60 minutes by bus from Iiyama to Hasuike. Driving time can be much longer in winter.
Fuel before climbing
Check fuel in Iiyama or at lower elevation before entering the highlands. Do not rely on finding an open fuel station near the final resort.
Check the official road report, live cameras and seasonal closures. Navigation may suggest a road that is closed in winter.
Know when to take the bus
4WD and winter tyres do not replace winter-driving experience. If heavy snow is forecast or restrictions are active, use public transport or change the plan.
