1. Protect life and prevent another crash

Check for injuries and call 119 for an ambulance when needed. If it can be done safely, prevent secondary danger and warn approaching traffic. Keep yourself out of live traffic lanes.

02

2. Contact police and the rental company

The Japan Rent-A-Car Association instructs renters to contact both the police and rental provider regardless of the size of the accident. This includes minor contact or damage with no other driver present.

Follow the emergency contacts in the rental agreement and vehicle documents. Do not make a private settlement at the scene.

03

3. Record the location and facts

When safe, record the time, exact location, other party, police report details, vehicle condition and witnesses. In snow, share a map pin because road names and landmarks can be difficult to identify.
