When the direct bus is the easier choice
The Nozawa Onsen Tourism Association lists the Nozawa Onsen Liner from Iiyama Station at about 25 minutes, with fares of ¥600 for adults and ¥300 for children. It suits solo travellers and small groups who prefer not to drive on snow.
Check the current timetable against your train. Also confirm how you will reach your accommodation from the bus stop, especially with skis or large luggage.
- Staying only in Nozawa Onsen
- No winter-driving experience
- Train and bus times connect
- Luggage is manageable from the stop
When a rental car adds useful flexibility
A car can work well for families, ski equipment and trips that also include Hokuryuko, Kijimadaira or Madarao. Compare the total cost for the whole group, not only the headline daily rate.
Ask your accommodation for its recommended winter route, unloading instructions and parking location. Do not assume that narrow streets or the central bus terminal are available for visitor parking.
Compare the same complete journey
For the bus, include return fares and the final walk or transfer. For a car, include insurance, winter equipment, fuel and parking. On departure day, allow time for either the bus connection or refuelling and rental return before your train.
